26 March 2022 from 11:00 - 18:00 (CEST / GMT+1)

Open to attendees of ASSW, but pre-registration required - IN-PERSON

Room: 1.317

Session Abstract:

Please join us for a workshop discussing Race and Systemic Bias within Arctic Sciences. Following on from IASC’s 2020 statement on Race and Systemic Bias, we will discuss these issues in more detail, and work towards providing IASC recommendations in this area.

We acknowledge that as organisers we are approaching these issues from a Western perspective, but encourage participation from all who wish to take part. We will be formulating the breakout discussions based on your motivations to take part. We also acknowledge that race may be a hidden issue and as such are asking applicants to self-define only if they are personally affected by these issues. Allies are also more than welcome to participate.

Limited travel funding is available for early career participants- more details on how to apply will be added here shortly.

We would ask that you please register for the workshop in advance using this form. We do have a limited capacity, and while participants will be accepted mostly on a first-come-first-served basis, we may need to reserve some places to ensure a diverse participation, we hope you understand.

Final details will be sent nearer the time, but a provisional structure is as follows:

Morning:
11:00 - 11:10 Intro, welcome, setting code of conduct
11:10 - 11:30 Participants share their motivation for attending
11:30 - 13:00 Panel of speakers

Afternoon session 1:
14:00-15:30: 1st set of breakout groups (discussions based on morning session)
Afternoon session 2:
16:00 - 17:30: 2nd set of breakouts groups (discussions more aligned to outputs)
